On Friday, October 21st, there will be our movie basket raffle. Thanks to all that came to the conference, it was a pleasure to have you in our classrooms. We read 'Spookley the Square Pumpkin' by Joe Troiano, and the children will be making their own pumpkins based on the story. They are also displayed in our classrooms with documentation of what the children said about their marks. Inspired by the book, we made a mark on our walls and painted beautiful dots. We have read many stories, like ‘The Dot’ by Peter Reynolds. We also got a tomato plant that we will be planting this week in a bigger pot and see if we can grow tomatoes too! The children are excited about watching the process of how a plant grows. We noticed the many seeds that germinated into sprouts and are continuing to grow. What is happening? How do plants grow? What do they need to survive? etc. We take care of our garden and every day we water and talk about it. This week, when they came back, they were happy to see their beautiful drawings were still there.

Our outdoor environment is decorated with many bright colored drawings by your children. Last week, the children were excited to use chalk in our outdoor/playground area. The flowers are displayed in our classroom. They used sharpie pens to draw what they observed and later used watercolors to paint. We had a provocation set up for the children with flowers. It was very interesting to hear their thoughts! Later, they were asked to draw what they thought it was. We brought the skeleton of a cactus into the class and the children had the opportunity to observe and touch it. They have noticed how roots are coming out of the potato and floating in the water. They made predictions and pictures of what they thought would grow out of the sweet potato. The children are watching the growth of the sweet potato we placed in the water about three weeks ago.

The children are learning about leaves, trees, and food that we harvest during this time of the year.
